TCF Studies in France (Tout Public)
Assessment and Certification
Available in paper format or on computer, the TCF for the general public is a language proficiency test designed by France éducation international (FEI), an operator of the French Ministry of Education. It is offered to all candidates wishing to undertake a program of study at a French university or grande école. ILE international organizes weekly test sessions for interested candidates. The test consists of several parts:
Mandatory components include a linear questionnaire consisting of 76 questions with a multiple choice format and completion time is 1 hour and 25 minutes. Questions are presented in this order:
Mandatory | ||||
Listening 29questions 25 minutes | Language structure 18 questions 15 minutes | Reading 29 questions 45 minutes |
---|
An optional speaking test includes an interview with an authorized TCF examiner. The writing test is a written task. Both tests assess the ability of candidates to express themselves and interact with others in French.
The question type is based on the principle of increasing difficulty and questions are always presented in the following order:
Optional | ||
Writing 3 tasks 60 minutes | Speaking 3 tasks 12 minutes |
---|
Test reports are sent to candidates via e-mail in three weeks time, but a preliminary printed report can be requested at the end of the test session. ILE International proposes TCF TP computer based test sessions.
