TCF IRN

TCF IRN has been specifically designed to meet the new requirements of the French Ministry of the Interior for assessing the French language skills of candidates wishing to acquire French nationality. The TCF IRN is made up of 4 compulsory tests, each of which assesses the candidate’s proficiency in French as a general language. The TCF IRN comprises 4 compulsory tests assessing general French language skills:

Oral skills

The TCF IRN assesses exclusively language skills and not knowledge of French history, culture and society.

Oral comprehension, written comprehension and written expression are carried out in a computer testing room in groups; oral expression is carried out in interview format with a face-to-face examiner.

The TCF results certificate for the IRN test is only valid in the context of an application for obtaining French nationality or a residence card, by marriage or by naturalization. The TCF IRN certificate cannot be used to enroll in a French university or to apply for immigration to Quebec or Canada.
